This blog predates Jack Swagger's gimmick shift by a year. I named it after Hulk Hogan's entrance theme.

Live Reactions – Elimination Chamber 2015 – Divas Championship Triple Threat Match

leave a comment »

Following the tag team Elimination Chamber, the announce team reviews Rusev’s injury and the unknown factor this adds to the Intercontinental Championship Chamber Match.  Rusev tweets that the stupid American doctors won’t let him compete because of a little broken foot.  He says in his country, he would put on duct tape and fight.  Lana gives Dolph Ziggler some words of encouragement.

The Triple Threat Match for the Divas Championship is up next as Nikki Bella makes her way to the ring.  Naomi and Paige come out next.  As announced on the preshow, both Tamina and Brie Bella have been barred from ringside.  In the early going, Naomi slams Nikki into the announce table and she’s down and out on the floor.  Paige gets a near fall off a Bodyslam and goes through a trio of Short-arm Clotheslines on Naomi.  Paige kicks Nikki trying to get back in the ring, knocking her down.  Fallaway Slam on Naomi.  Cover for a near fall.  Nikki back in.  Facebreaker from Nikki on Paige.  Nikki splashes both challengers in the corner.  Alabama Slam on Paige.  Naomi rolls Nikki up in a Schoolgirl for a near fall.  Naomi clubs Nikki in the corner and covers Paige for a near fall and then stomps on her gut.  Naomi posts Nikki and Nikki crashes back out to the floor.  Naomi works over Paige and hits a Snap Suplex.  Standing Leg Drop from Naomi on Paige.  Naomi taunts the crowd.  Naomi puts Paige up on the top turnbuckle backward and climbs up after her.  Paige fights her off long enough for Nikki to break it up with a Tower of Doom move.  Nikki covers Naomi.  Near fall.  Nikki covers Paige.  Near fall.  Cliche.  Moving on.  Nikki sets up for the Rack Attack on Paige, but Naomi breaks it up with the Rear View.  Naomi covers Nikki, but Paige breaks it up.  PTO locked in on Nikki, but Naomi hits a Superkick to break it up.  Cover on Paige for a near fall.  Naomi ends up on Paige’s shoulders and does a botched Reverse Frankensteiner and covers her, but Paige kicks out for a near fall.  Great work though.  Never seen divas do that before.  Nikki ducks an Enziguri from Naomi and hits her with the Rack Attack.  Nikki covers Naomi for the three count and retains the championship.

Brie shows up to help her celebrate.  The Bellas run atop the Divas division will continue for the time being.  This wasn’s up to the standard that the NXT ladies set, but it was very good for a Divas match, particularly one that featured Nikki Bella.  Well done.

Payback Live Reactions – John Cena vs. Rusev and Divas Tag Match

John Cena vs. Rusev in an “I Quit” Match was everything that we expected.  The two men destroyed various sections of the set all over the arena.  They rammed each other through a section of the barricade at one point.  Cena hit the Attitude Adjustment onto a pad behind part of the entrance set that set off some pyros making it look like it was destructive, but was really just a cheap stunt.  They tore up the steps and Cena went for the spot that he made famous in his Last Man Standing match with Umaga where he threw part of the stairs from the ring and out to the floor into his opponent’s face, but Rusev dodged it.  Rusev Suplexed Cena through a steel gate rigged to crumple in half that they set up leaning against the outside of the ring.  At the end, Rusev chokes Cena out with the Accolade and Cena passes out and thus cannot quit and the match cannot end.  Rusev splashes water on him and undoes the top turnbuckle all the way off the corner, undoing the top rope completely and goes to choke Cena with it like the finish of the Last Man Standing Match at the 2007 Royal Rumble, but Cena counters and puts Rusev in the STF, looping the loose rope over Rusev’s nose and face and using it to pull his head back.  Rusev starts yelling random stuff in either Russian or Bulgarian, which Lana gets into the ring and interprets as Rusev saying that he quits though we can’t tell what he’s really saying, so Cena wins the match because Lana says that Rusev quits.

In coming weeks, Rusev will undoubtedly say that he didn’t quit, that Lana quit because she was weak and he was saying something completely different so he can save face because apparently the point of having an “I Quit” Match is for nobody to quit and for one of those crappy finishes that doesn’t satisfy the rules of the match.  This would have been much better served to have just been a No Holds Barred match or something of that nature.  However, when the goal was to have Cena fight Rusev at 4 straight PPVs and not let either guy ever lose cleanly to the other, you get crappy finishes that don’t really finish anything.

Next up was the Divas tag team match and I wasn’t really paying attention during this one on purpose.  If it had been a title match, different story, but as it was, I did the stereotypical thing and used this match for my pee break.  Naomi and Tamina beat the Bellas decisively and nobody seemed to care, probably because they didn’t.
